Obama Infomercial and the danger of demagoguery

Obama said something today that should piss off everyone. He was talking about the high profits of Exxon Mobil this quarter, over $14 billion. Obama actually said, “That’s your money.” Senator Obama, NO IT ISN’T. Exxon Mobil offered a product, gasoline, at a price and millions of Americans chose to buy it. The money belongs to Exxon. Obama believes or wants you to believe Exxon’s money belongs to everyone. That is Marxism. Unadulterated Marxism.

Comments like this are typical of Obama, and he made similar, idiotic comments of demagoguery in his Wednesday infomercial before the final game of the World Series.

  • he’ll create “5 million clean enery jobs that can never be outsourced”

Unless he’s gonna create 5 million new government jobs, the President has ZERO authority to regulate the actions of a private entity. So either he wants to expand his own powers, or he thinks government isn’t big enough. Not to mention the statistical fact that domestic jobs have also been increasing despite outsourcing. Outsourcing does not reduce American jobs, as counterintuitive as that is.

  • “I will tap our natural gas reserves”

Yet another example of his assumption at your ignorance of the powers of the President. If he wants to help others tap our natural gas reserves, perhaps he could try to get some legislation passed that got the environmentlists out of the way of private companies that have the ability to tap the reserves.

  • Claims he will use veto line-items in the budget that he considers earmarks or wasteful

He’s just flat-out lying. The President does not have line-item veto power. He will either let these items through as every president before him has done, or he will be overridden by Congress, who won’t let him veto every single budget.

  • He’ll “remember soldiers are sons and daughters” as President

The President of the United States is Commander in Chief of the most powerful military in the world. Obama’s job would be to protect 300 million sons and daughters. Decisions must be made quickly and unemotionally, and any president who hesitates to send a son or daughter to die to protect ten other sons and daughters, 100 sons and daughters, 1000 sons and daughters, does not have the temperance or maturity to lead this country.

  • “In six days, we can choose hope over fear and unity over division…”

Obama is currently at 49.9% in the polls, 1% less than George W. Bush got in 2004. I guess Bush had more unity.

  • “John McCain and Sarah Palin they call [spreading the wealth around] socialistic. You know I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness.” (from a speech 2 days after the 10/29 infomercial)

They appear to have made selfishness a virtue around the same time you made socialism popular. I hate to use a presently overused cliche, but Obama is trying to put lipstick on socialism and call it something else. Socialism and Marxism have definitions; they have concrete meanings, as does capitalism. Obama does not get to modify their definitions simply because a large portion of the country are easily pleased by demagoguery and class warfare.

Folks, he’s not even hiding it anymore. I know you want out of Iraq now, but at what price?

The false promises of Obama AND McCain: a macroeconomics reality check

October 31st, 2008 OAL No comments

I like Dick Morris, and his book Fleeced, but I came across a sentence that irked me, and its a theme that has entered the spotlight lately with the financial crisis. It’s a passage from his hedge-fund managers tax break chapter:

“The bottom line is simple:for the rest of us, keeping 65% of our income after the taxman leaves is adequate incentive to send us to work each morning. So why do private equity fund managers feel they deserve 85%?”

Morris’s comment about “adequate incentive” implies that incentive is a single point on the “action” scale. Once you reach it, you have received adequate incentive to act. Morris’s goal is to get you to be angry at Democrats who allow hedge-fund managers to classify their commission as a capital gain, but he does it with class envy.

Incentive exists on a progressive spectrum, not at a single point. If incentive is only a threshold to be reached, why would there be high school dropouts and PhDs existing on the same planet? If you change incentives in any way to any system that affects millions of people, it will have drastic results: good or bad.

If you reduce the incentive for people to become hedge-fund managers IN ANY WAY, especially a 133% increase in their tax burden, it will affect the hedge-fund industry as a whole. That includes all the managers assistants, the janitors in the building, the shareholders. When you reduce the bottom line for any company, you remove capital from the market. Rich people use capital to start businesses, and businesses employ people, provide healthcare and pensions.

Macroeconomics and the financial crisis

Both candidates have been pontificating about all the changes they’re going to make. They’re gonna slash this and invest in that, all the while talking about taxpayer money as though it belongs to them. Obama wants to invest “$15 billion PER YEAR in wind, solar, and biofuel”, all unproven, while simultaneously defunding “unproven missile defense systems.” McCain doesn’t want to decrease the defense budget like Obama, but he is no different on the environment than Obama. They both pander to the environmentally compassionate nerve of Americans who are appallingly ignorant, and totally unconcerned, with macroeconomics.

A disturbing amount of Americans think that driving a certain automobile and using a certain lightbulb will affect the climate of a 510 million square kilometer planet while simultaneously thinking only rich people will be affected by doubling the capital gains tax. Obama and McCain constantly talk about “working families” and the student “struggling to pay tuition.” Families will always struggle while working, and students will always struggle with tuition. Presidents cannot micromanage the free market to alleviate such things. The President has a job description, and it has NOTHING to do with college tuition. NOTHING.

Obama claiming he can overcome the market

You don’t have to be a macroeconomist to understand the fallacy of one of Obama’s campaign talking points. He tells us he’s gonna prevent the outsourcing of American jobs by offering a $3,000 tax credit for businesses that create jobs here in America. This will work great, unless the benefit of taking a job overseas is greater than a $3,000 tax credit (which it usually is). Obama didn’t tell you that because he wants to increase American jobs. He wants to increase Americans voting for his nonsense.
Up until the recent crash, financial experts would spout utter, crystal-ball nonsense about what you should do with your money and what will happen in the stock market. After the crash, every news show would have an expert on and ask them what’s gonna happen. “Is this the bottom?” or “Will it get worse?” None, that I’ve seen, will answer the question with anything but “I DON’T KNOW.” The reality is, they never knew, and the recent activity in the stock market is all the proof you need.

You can’t tax a corporation

This all goes back to my previous comments on taxing the rich; YOU CAN’T TAX A CORPORATION. Both candidates pander to this class envy nonsense. Let me simplify it for you. Congress writes a bill that raises the taxes on a gallon of gasoline by 10 cents. President ObamcCain signs it, and the “middle class” rejoices that rich oil companies are paying 10 extra cents.

On what planet do you think a public oil company, who has shareholders that react to its profits, will simply eat the 10 cents per gallon, which would amount to almost $150 billion per year? Their stock would plummet if they did that… unless…what if they just raised the price of a gallon of gas by exactly 10 cents?

When you tax an industry of corporations, all you do is tax the consumer. There is no “incentive” for the corporation to lose that money you’re taking, but there is incentive for them to raise their prices and go on their merry way. Or maybe they only raise their prices a little, and fire a couple thousand employees to make up the difference. Corporate taxes are hidden sales tax, and until regular Americans learn that, politicians like McCain and Obama will continue lying to you about how much they care about the “middle class” and “working families.

Joe the Plumber finally swings polls

October 30th, 2008 OAL 3 comments

A new Rasmussen poll shows McCain has regained the public’s trust on the economy and taxes. McCain lost this poll after the collapse of Lehman Brothers, and the sharp decline of the entire market shortly thereafter. McCain is preferred by voters 47% to 45% for Obama on taxes. McCain also leads 48% to 47% on the economy, and 45% to 44% on Social Security. McCain is still down in the generic voting polls.

All the talk of hope and change and “failed policies of the last 8 years” were blown out by 4 words: spread the wealth around. Not that you should celebrate if it sinks Obama’s campaign; John McCain thinks that Wall Street should be punished. You’re not gonna punish them by taking their money, are you John?

Joe the Plumber was able to ask a more hard-hitting relevant question than all the debate moderators combined. Now we have the big question: which incompetent, unqualified liar do we vote for? Barack, the socialist, possibly racist, incompetent, unqualified liar, or John, the global-warming-believing, fiscally moderate, incompetent, unqualified liar? Obviously John, but don’t tell me you’re excited about it.

Why Obama shouldn’t run for Prez: by Barack Obama himself

See the videos at mypetjawa where Obama agrees he shouldn’t be running… at least before he started. I’d love to see him asked about his comments…

“That’s not the man I knew.” Barack thought he knew Barack, but after seeing these comments perhaps he’ll have to disassociate himself.

Obama’s ad would not be allowed under “Fairness Doctrine”

October 28th, 2008 OAL 1 comment

Wednesday, Barack Obama has a half-hour ad playing before the World Series Game 6 on 3 networks. If he is able to win, he will follow up his use of free speech in a free marketplace to make it illegal to do what he just did.

Press Secretary Michael Ortiz outlined Obama’s position on the Fairness Doctrine:

“He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible,” Ortiz added. “That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets.”

The airwaves are OPEN. There is no restriction on who can own a radio station, especially not based on the race of the prospective owner. I suppose the Senator thinks that having affirmative action forced upon the world of radio would make it more “fair” in some way.

He wants to have “network neutrality.” In America, people have the right to not be neutral. If there were only 4 channels, I could see maybe regulating the content, but there are substantially more than 4. AM radio stations, FM, Network television, cable television, sattelite radio, and the near infinite number of websites make limiting the content or partisanship of any of these media moot.

Reinstituting the fairness doctrine would certainly deem Senator Obama’s 30 minute special as “unfair” and unequal time for only one point of view. Perhaps the fairness doctrine might require Obama to give 15 minutes of his 30 to Senator McCain in the relentless pursuit of fairness. Even though Senator Obama told Philly fans he is rooting for them, and Tampa fans he is rooting for them, I guarantee he’s rooting for Tampa to extend the series just one more day. Wouldn’t want Philadelphia to reduce viewership too early by winning the thing on Tuesday.

What to make of the Presidential polls

October 24th, 2008 OAL No comments

An ABC/Washington Post poll has Obama running away with an 11 point lead. CNN/Opinion Research says his lead is 5. AP/Gfk has Obama up by only 1, a virtual tie.

The reason is pollsters don’t just ask questions and report the results. They weight the results based on how the electorate is made up. If they poll 1000 republicans and 500 democrats, by chance, they can’t just report the results. They’re not representative, because their aren’t twice as many republicans as democrats. The problem that arises is figuring out the exact makeup of the electorate.

Obviously, the pollsters disagree on the makeup of the electorate. 11 point difference between one poll and another show that someone is severely inaccurate. You also have to pay attention to what kind of poll it was. There are registered voter polls and likely voter polls. Big difference. So how do you know who is telling the truth?

The poll that most accurately reported the results in 2004, Investor’s Business Daily, has Obama leading McCain 44.8% to 43.7%. 1.1% lead, which is within the margin of error, and obviously the 11% undecided left over certainly will have an effect. Unfortunately, their guess at the makeup of the electorate could be wrong too, as the candidacy of Obama may have changed it a point or two. Basically, the only poll you might be able to believe is the election results on November 5. Even then, issues with ACORN etc. will certainly make for a long holiday season.

Gore won the popular vote in 2000, so a national poll is a bit irrelevant anyway. I would pay attention to swing state polls. Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire, Virgina, North Carolina. McCain appears he will get Ohio and Florida as Bush did, but will probably lose North Carolina. McCain needs to hold onto a bunch more states, OR win Pennsylvania. If McCain wins PA, Obama is in big trouble. Watch Pennsylvania, the state Obama and Murtha have stated the residents “cling to their guns and religion.”

Michelle Obama may sink campaign yet

October 21st, 2008 OAL No comments

From WND (WorldNetDaily):

“The African Press International news agency – which reported that Michelle Obama called to protest its coverage of WND stories about her husband, characterized the source of the material as “racist” and described WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi as “evil” – has announced it is clear of legal hurdles and is seeking an American news source to distribute audio recordings of Michelle Obama’s phone call.”

Jerome Corsi wrote a book, “The Obama Nation,” which in some of its chapters talks about the upbringing of Barack Obama. According to WND, Michelle left a message at API:

“African Press International is supposed to support Africans and African-American view,” she reportedly said. “It is strange that API has chosen to support the racists against my husband… My husband and I know that there is no law that will stop him from becoming the president, just because some American white racists are bringing up the issue of my husband’s adoption by his stepfather.”

The Obama campaign denies that the call was made. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Another interesting fact that should be known is Jerome Corsi was recently arrested in Kenya and deported. The excuse put forth by Prime Minister Odinga’s administration is that he didnt have the proper documentation to be working in the country. It is extremely notable that Corsi ties Obama to Prime Minister Odinga rather strongly in his book, including Obama inserting himself in the politics of Kenya, both Obama and Odinga being fellow tribesman (Luo tribe), and a donation from Odinga to Obama’s campaign of $1 million, a donation denied by both parties.

Regardless, if the above text is really on the recorded message, the Obama campaign has lied again about facts of record. On top of that, the content of the tape confirms yet another close association Barack Obama has with radical black thought. Their problem will be amplified if the audio is played, as I am sure Michelle Obama sounds less “diplomatic” when she doesn’t know she’s being recorded. Hold on to your hats.

Joe the Plumber debacle summed up

October 21st, 2008 OAL No comments

For those that don’t know a plumber from Ohio asked Barack Obama a question, and his answer was,

“When you spread the wealth around, its good for everybody.”

You don’t have to know what was asked or who asked it. You don’t need to know any context to understand what Barack Obama said. He wants to “spread the wealth around.” As I’ve said in other posts, Obama thinks of wealth the same way he thinks of oxygen. It doesn’t belong to anyone; it just exists. He is a certified socialist.

In response to this incident making Obama look bad, the predominantly liberal media and liberal Democrat politicians have decided to do what they always do. The problem is “Joe” isn’t a Washington politician throwing stones from a glass house. Joe didnt even throw a stone. Obama confirmed Joe’s statement and elaborated. Joe the Plumber has simply illustrated the liberal approach to dealing with a problem…

“This guy made a Democrat look bad. Therefore, he must be destroyed.”

The liberal instinct to destroy Joe was so ingrained, they weren’t paying attention. Here’s a story where they say he’s not a plumber because he doesn’t have a license. Notice they don’t say he’s actually a ____. The guy who asked the question isn’t the story. Even if he was a KKK president/child molestor, Obama still answered “spread the wealth around.” A socialist talking to a normal person is still a socialist when talking to a bad person. So, don’t be distracted by all this stuff about Joe the Plumber not paying his taxes, not having a plumber’s license, and not being named Joe. Even if all that is true, Obama’s answer remains the same.

The secondary part of the story is “Joe.” He does owe taxes, but that doesn’t change Obama’s answer. His real name is Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher. Implying that his real name isn’t Joe is childish, trial lawyer nonsense. His middle name is Joe, but again, that doesn’t change Obama’s answer. He does not have a plumbing license, but he doesn’t have to have one. His boss does have to have one, and does, but that doesn’t change Obama’s answer:

“When you spread the wealth around, its good for everybody.”

Senator Obama, I think Russians would disagree. They had immense power, plenty of social planners, lots of money, and bureaucracy that would make the DMV blush, and they couldn’t make socialism work. It thankfully collapsed, proving that self-interested public sector bureaucrats are worse than self-interested private sector bureaucrats.

Racism in the Republican party: Colin Powell

October 20th, 2008 OAL No comments

Well, sort of. I dont consider this indicative of the GOP by any stretch. I despise anyone who sells out their principles for the sake of race. I don’t care which race it is. Anyone who won’t vote for Barack Obama because he’s part black is an ignorant moron, and likewise anyone who will vote for him because he’s part black is an ignorant moron. It appears that Colin Powell, age 71, would like to see a half-black president before he dies, and he’s willing to put lipstick on socialism to help it get done.
“Taxes are always a redistribution of money. Most of the taxes that are redistributed go back to those that pay it in roads and airports and hospitals and schools…”

Except Obama wants rich people to pay twice as much for the same roads as poor people. The rich people are not getting their money back. That’s like charging poor people $4 for a coffee, but charging rich people $20 for a coffee. “They’re getting their money back! Look we gave them a coffee!”

“and taxes are necessary for the common good.”

We have to be very specific with this one. Taxes are necessary for the rule of law, national defense, and providing a reliable currency. Most things outlined in the constitution fall under those three things. Having the rule of law is part of why the United States is so great. We take it for granted, while other nations have to deal with religious influences. Taxes make our virtually omnipotent military possible, and again, we take our security for granted. A lot of countries would like being #1 in the world by taking us out, but they wouldn’t dare due to the threat of our power.

The point is capitalism is really what is necessary for the common good. It does not work without tax revenue to provide the rule of law and national defense, but the common good cannot be achieved without capitalism. Capitalism and the free market are color-blind, class-blind, age-blind. They are also unforgiving and brutal, which is why socialists don’t like it. The problem is socialism is unforgiving and brutal in its own ways, as shown by many nations in the past and present.
“There’s nothing wrong with examining what our tax structure is or who should be paying more or who should be paying less and for us to say that that makes you a socialist I think is an unfortunate characterization. That isn’t accurate.”

Colin, saying that one American should pay more taxes than another is socialist. The fact you don’t like the word socialist does not change its meaning. All socialists “advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly.” (Wikipedia)

Calling it socialist is 100% accurate. This analysis does not illustrate that Colin Powell is a closet-socialist, or he wishes the country was socialist. It illustrates that he doesn’t care about the appalling scourge of socialism, as long as a half-black man becomes President while he’s still alive. I have no doubt that if John McCain were black, he would endorse John McCain. Its not a matter of ideology. General Powell doesn’t have the patience or patriotism to let time pass and allow for a qualified, black candidate to earn the office. I’m sure it will happen very soon, but perhaps not for another several election cycles.
