Russia and China are no military threat to the U.S.

The recent Russian invasion of Georgia made big news recently, prompting questions of Russia wanting to get back in the superpower game. What a preposterous suggestion when you learn that’s not in the cards. If the fact that Russia invaded Georgia with tanks doesn’t convince you, read on.

I’ve also heard people refer to China’s “billion man army.”

The key phrase here is “military projection.” There are lots of countries that can defend themselves, but attacking other countries is whole different story.

Ability to project across oceans

Russian navy ships: 701
Chinese navy ships: 232
American navy ships: 1,866

Air force

Russian aircraft: 7,331
Chinese aircraft: 2,700
American aircraft: 18,169

Ability to shift funds to military

Russian GDP: 1.3 trillion
Chinese GDP: 3.3 trillion
American GDP: 13.8 trillion

Check out this graphical illustration of our dominance in missile defense systems.
Liberals, when you say we’re losing the war in Iraq, you sound painfully ignorant. No one, not even China or Russia, especially not some unorganized renegades in the middle east, is in the same league as the United States. Its not even close. Losing the war, are you insane? We can crush any country in the world without losing a single life. We just choose not to because you spineless wimps whine and moan any time some conservative makes the tough decision to risk lives, so we fight wars with our hands tied behind our back.

China and Russia can certainly decimate their neighbors. They can project militarily in a very powerful way nearby. Their ability to project globally is dwarfed by ours. We have twice the ships they have combined, almost twice the aircraft combined, and to match our GDP, they would have to combine theirs with Japan and Iran to match us. Good luck getting Japan on board. Russia and China could theoretically kill lots of people by firing every missile they have at us, but they wouldn’t dare because it would be suicide.

Russia invades with tanks? Dont make me laugh. We have video games that use more strategy than rolling missile magnets.

Didn’t your country surrender to Allied forces in 1943?

    Italian navy ships: 109 (5.8% of U.S.)
    Italian aircraft: 1,594 (8.8%)
    Italian GDP: 1.8 trillion (12.9%)

Your country is a benchwarmer on a global scale. You’re lucky we keep you safe. Prego!

I believe in order to make statements such as those you are making; more research and elaborated stats are required. If comparing the forces of Allies to Axis in WWII you would be very surprised too the outcome. All threw out the war there was an arms race between super powers. Have you heard of the Soviet Union and its 15 countries that where liberated after the collapse. Threats should be taken seriously, powers can not necessarily be compared on a scale of quantity other aspect have to be considered especially in times like these it does not take a horde of missiles any more to do sever damages.
I think it has a lot too do with strategies just like Germany got Russia occupied for a while with the German soviet non aggression act in order to take care of other things before concentrating forces on the big Russian cold front which they knew would take many resources.
Critical thinking is a great tool; do not go with the obvious like numbers sometimes it takes a look behind the curtain to really know what’s going on.
And attitudes like yours have been held by many of the great ancient country’s that have all collapsed. Confidence makes blind but awareness and acknowledgment make you wise.

You and I have no disagreement on the facts of my post. I simply can’t cover the issue comprehensively in an article.

Let me be clear… we can be hurt by any moron who gets hold of a suitcase nuke. I’m not saying Russia and China are incapable of hurting us, but they cannot enter full-fledged warfare with us. My hypothesis is that they will never go to war with us based on those numbers. They will be assured destruction.

Don’t attack my attitude; attack my facts and logic. You don’t have the facts on your side, so you vaguely say that my attitude has caused great countries to fall in the past. Pontificating about awareness and acknowledgment is intellectually lazy.

If you take my confidence about Russia and China as blindness about al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations using cell-warfare to get a small nuke into America, you need to work on your train of thought… and read more of my posts. Put it this way; I consider Russia and China less dangerous to the United States than al-Qaeda when speaking about warfare or violent conflict.
